Some amulets require little introduction.

This is undoubtedly one of them.

The Phra Pidta Jumbo Sorng is arguably one of the most recognisable and celebrated creations of Luang Pu Tohk. Even those with only a passing interest in Thai amulets will immediately recognise its unmistakable silhouette.

Officially known as the “Roon Sarm Trai Maad”, collectors throughout Thailand and abroad affectionately refer to it simply as Jumbo Sorng.

The name “Jumbo Sorng” literally translates to “Jumbo Two”, referring to its unusually large dimensions and the fact that it was the second large-format Phra Pidta officially created and blessed by Luang Pu Tohk. Its commanding presence, coupled with its distinctive proportions, has made it one of the defining images associated with the revered master.

What truly distinguishes this issue, however, is the extraordinary dedication invested in its creation.

Unlike conventional amulet batches that were blessed over a relatively short period, the Roon Sarm Trai Maad underwent an extensive consecration process spanning three years (B.E. 2521–2523). Throughout this period, the amulets were immersed in holy water while receiving continuous blessings from Luang Pu Tohk, making it one of the longest and most elaborate consecration ceremonies ever undertaken by the master.

This particular batch of Phra Pidta has a total of 3 general material variants made:

1. NER BAILARN – 34,974 pieces made in the world
2. NER KAESORN – 5,000 pieces made in the world
3. NER PONG TOOP – 2,700 pieces made in the world

This featured piece is made of  NER BAILARN..

The featured specimen is crafted from Ner Bailarn, a sacred material traditionally prepared from burnt palm-leaf Buddhist scriptures. Within Thai Buddhist tradition, palm-leaf manuscripts have long been regarded as repositories of the Buddha’s teachings, and amulets created from such materials have been highly revered for generations.

While the Bailarn variant represents the largest production quantity of the three materials, examples preserved in outstanding original condition are becoming increasingly difficult to encounter.

This is especially true for powder amulets.

Over decades, powder compositions are naturally susceptible to chips and damage through handling. To encounter an example retaining such exceptional sharpness throughout the fingers, facial features, and sacred yantra on the rear is becoming increasingly uncommon.

This particular specimen immediately captivated us.
