This featured piece features the image of the Garuda. They are known as the golden-winged birds in Buddhist texts.

Garuda symbolism represents strength, power, speed, and victory, and it is used in both spiritual and secular contexts across Hinduism, Buddhism, and Southeast Asian cultures. It symbolizes divine power and protection as the vehicle of Vishnu, while in Buddhism, it represents protection, awareness, and courage against obstacles.

Thailand uses the Garuda as its national symbol, known as the Phra Khrut Pha, meaning “Garuda, the vehicle (of Vishnu),” also used as the symbol of royalty.

This featured piece is blessed by Luang Por Wara of Wat Pho Thong, Bangkok. Luang Por Wara is known as the most prominent contemporary creator of the Phaya Krut (Garuda) amulet in Thailand.

This batch of Garuda amulets are made in Year 2540 B.E. (1997 A.D.) and is from the “Mahasethi” Batch which is translated into “Millionaire Batch”.

Among the countless medallions created by Luang Por Kasem, there is one issue that has quietly lived in the shadow of another legendary masterpiece for more than half a century.

The year 2517 B.E. (1974 A.D.) is universally recognised by collectors as one of the most important years in Luang Por Kasem’s collecting history. It was the same year that saw the creation of the legendary Rian Gong Pan Lampang, widely regarded as the definitive medallion of Luang Por Kasem. Today, examples of the Solid Gold variant command values exceeding ten million Baht, while even copper examples have appreciated to several hundred thousand Baht, firmly establishing the issue as one of the most coveted modern Thai amulets ever created.

Yet within that very same year, another remarkable medallion was quietly created.

One that, in our opinion, remains one of the most overlooked and undervalued masterpieces in the entire body of Luang Por Kasem’s work.

This is the Rian Wat Plab Plah.

Perhaps what makes this issue even more fascinating is that it shares more than just the same year of creation with the celebrated Gong Pan Lampang.

Both medallions were designed and engraved by Chang Mongkhon Kasem Charoen, one of Thailand’s most accomplished Buddhist artists whose remarkable works have become benchmarks of modern Buddhist sculpture and medallions. The elegant proportions, refined engraving, and remarkable realism found throughout both issues clearly reflect the unmistakable artistry that defined his career.

Despite these remarkable similarities, the Rian Wat Plab Plah has remained quietly appreciated by experienced collectors while seldom attracting the same level of attention afforded to its more famous contemporary.

To us, this presents one of the most compelling collecting opportunities within Luang Por Kasem’s entire repertoire.

The origins of this issue are equally meaningful.

In 2517 B.E., Wat Plab Plah in Nonthaburi Province was undertaking the construction of a new Ubosot (Ordination Hall) but lacked sufficient funding to complete the project. The temple therefore sought permission from Luang Por Kasem to create a commemorative issue to raise funds for the construction.

Permission was granted on 20 August 2517 B.E., marking an important milestone in Luang Por Kasem’s history.

Remarkably, this became the first officially authorised commemorative issue created outside of Susarn Trailak with Luang Por Kasem’s direct approval. This distinction alone firmly secures its historical importance within his entire series of amulets.

Upon completion, the medallions were brought to Susarn Trailak, Lampang, where Luang Por Kasem personally consecrated them on 5 October 2517 B.E..

The consecration itself has since become part of the medallion’s enduring legacy.

This featured piece is made of SILVER and only 999 pieces were made in the world.

This amazing piece featured today is the unanimously agreed TOP TIERED medallion of Luang Por Koon, the Holy Monk of the Nakhon Ratchasima.

And perhaps the most notable aspect of this medallion would be it’s amazingly preserved pristine condition..

Even with a naked eye, you can easily witness a “Piu Fai” texture found radiating from the surface of the entire medallion!

It is a chemical reaction that occurs when the alloy and the chemicals on the surface of the medallion comes into contact with the atmospheric components in the air which results in an absolutely unique iridescent/rainbow texture!

It is a natural oxidation process that takes decades to occur, and a prime evidence for industry veterans to properly ascertain that it is in the most original condition without signs of wear, damage or any types of human intervention.

Medallions that are worn, damaged, washed or refurbished will not exhibit naturally occurred textures like the item featured today.

Luang Por Koon is extremely well respected and highly revered by people all over the world. Born into a poor family, Luang Por Koon entered the monkhood at the age of 21 and vowed to remain a monk for life to help develop the quality of life of the poor of his province. He learnt Buddhism and meditation from revered monks in Nakhon Ratchasima. He made years-long pilgrimages to Laos and Cambodia to further practice meditation and promote Buddhism. He reportedly learned magic spells from one of his senior monks and mentors to protect him during his pilgrimages.

Luang Por Koon later returned to Wat Ban Rai and encouraged local residents to build and renovate temples, schools and ponds to help local children and villagers. He gradually became famous, with many having very positive experiences with the amulets, and even documenting many miracles among many of his devotees.

His popularity led to considerable donations, which he spent on the construction of schools, police stations, hospitals and temples.

This particular piece was blessed in Year 2519 B.E. (1976 A.D.) in hopes of raising funds for the construction and repairs of one of the temples he resided in during his youth, Wat Non Muerng. There were a FOUR material variants:

1. GOLD – Only 19 pieces made in the world
2. SILVER – Only 199 pieces made in the world
3. NAWALOHA – Only 999 pieces made in the world
4. COPPER – Only 2,519 pieces made in the world

Created in 2497 B.E. (1954 A.D.), this historic batch was commissioned to raise funds for the restoration and development of the temple. More importantly, it was consecrated during an exceptionally grand ceremony held on 3 November 2497 B.E., bringing together many of Thailand’s most revered monks of the era.

Today, this batch is universally recognised as one of the most significant Luang Por Sothorn medallions ever created and remains a cornerstone batch within the field of Thai Amulets.

This featured piece is known as the 5-6, 6-7 Variant. There are 6 variants made in total.

Many may be confused as to why is it called 5-6, 6-7 and what does it mean. It is actually simple and straightforward.
There are two sides of the medallion and both features the image of Luang Por Sothorn.

The number 5-6, 6-7 derives from the dots found on the top two segments of Luang Por Sothorn’s head on each of the side, hence the term 5-6, 6-7.

The condition of the amulet is among the BEST WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED!

In our opinion, it stands comfortably among the finest examples we have encountered over the years.

Medallions from this issue have now existed for more than seventy years. The vast majority found today exhibit softened details, worn high points, diminished surfaces, or evidence of repeated handling accumulated through decades of ownership.

This remarkable example has escaped that fate.

The original texture remains exceptionally well preserved, while decades of careful stewardship have allowed the surface to develop a rich and beautifully matured natural patina. The subtle hues scattered across both the front and back are exactly the characteristics advanced collectors hope to find.. Untouched, original and impossible to replicate artificially.

Examples preserved to this standard seldom reappear once they enter established collections.

This particular batch of Phra Pidta amulets are notoriously known for an incomplete casting with flaws found all over the amulet.. But this here, is one of the extreme minority exceptions! Near perfect with complete features!

Blessed by Luang Por Kasem and he is known as one of the most respected holy monks of the Northern Provinces of Thailand. Luang Por Kasem always abides to strict cultivation to attain enlightenment. He famously quoted that a monk needs nothing but his saffron robes and his alms bowl.

Born as a member of a royal bloodline of the Lampang’s royal family running in his veins, he gave up all material comforts for the sake of his cultivation and assistance to others!

It’s one of the 4 important images of Phra Pidta made in Year 2518 B.E. and blessed by Luang Por Kasem.

It can be broken down into 2 very simple reasons:

The size of the amulet is small, thus making it difficult to cast during its moulding process. The difficulty resulted in many pieces damaged. Beautiful pieces as this item featured is difficult to come by. The name of the amulet is also highly favored among collectors and bearers alike. It represents abundance and prosperity thus making it very sought after.
The amazing name, “Sarapadee”, which was bestowed by Luang Por Kasem himself. To signify “Universal Prosperity” that will encompasses all aspects of the bearer’s life and destiny.

The condition of this particular piece is nothing short of amazing! It is easily one of the most beautiful pieces we have encountered! Beautifully casted with all important details highly distinctive which is a rarity as it was created using primitive casting methods!

This particular medallion is also extremely well known to be one of the MOST PROMINENT AND POPULAR contemporary Luang Pu Thuad medallions made!

The creation of this batch of Luang Pu Thuad amulets were spearheaded by Mr. Sawasdi Chotipanich, the former President of the Supreme Court of Thailand. It was made to raise funds for the construction, renovation and restoration of two “Phra Mahathart” Stupa located in South Thailand. The Stupas are known to one of the largest in the entire South Thailand!

Her Royal Highness, the Queen of Thailand, Queen Sirikit, very kindly conferred 1,200,000 baht (approximately SGD$110,000 adjusted for inflation) to establish the fund. It was also built on occasion of His Royal Majesty, the King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 50th Year of Coronation!

The medallions were designed by Thailand’s Royal Architect, Momratchawong Mitarun Kasemsi and was minted by the Royal Mint of Thailand.

Blessed in a grand ceremony that took place in Wat Chang Hai. The grand consecration ceremony was presided over by numerous top holy monks of South Thailand such as:

1. Phra Kru Withan Satharanakit – Wat Buraparam (Highest ranking holy monk of Pattani)
2. Luang Por Chuang – Wat Khuan Pantaram, Songkhla
3. Por Tarn Klan – Wat Khao Orr, Phattalung
