What a true behemoth of a medallion this is. One must see it in person to fully appreciate its sheer presence and commanding heft. Photographs simply do not do it justice.
Limited to approximately only 99 pieces worldwide, seasoned collectors would certainly have heard of it.. Yet very few have ever handled one. It is notoriously difficult to source and seldom circulates in the open market.
Known as the Medallion of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn), this distinguished design pays homage to one of Thailand’s most important historic civil decorations, the revered “Dushdi Mala” medallion.
The front features the portrait of King Rama V, the Great Beloved King of Siam. His reign from 1868 to 1910 marked a defining era of modernisation, sweeping governmental and social reforms, and strategic diplomacy that preserved Siam’s sovereignty amidst British and French colonial expansion. To this day, King Chulalongkorn remains one of the most respected monarchs in Thai history.
The rear depicts Phra Siam Devadhiraj, the guardian deity believed to bestow supernatural protection over the Kingdom of Thailand.
Within the shield are three highly significant Siamese symbols:
– The Three-Headed Elephant (Erawan), celestial mount of Indra, representing supreme sovereignty and divine authority.
– The White Elephant (Chang Phueak), symbolising royal merit, prosperity, stability and abundance.
– The Kris, signifying authority, protection, and territorial unity within the historical Siamese realm.
This featured batch has a total of 3 different sizes and a very material variants made:
1. Large Mould – Made in SOLID GOLD, Silver and Nawaloha
2. Middle Mould – Made in SOLID GOLD, Silver and Nawaloha
3. Small Mould – Made in SOLID GOLD, Silver and Nawaloha
This particular piece is the RAREST AND MOST SOUGHT AFTER Large Mould Variant that is made in SOLID GOLD!
Weighing close to 100 grams of solid gold inclusive of its casing, it stands among the largest and heaviest medallions ever produced in Thailand.
Mass consecrated in a grand ceremony presided over by Luang Por Pern of Wat Bang Phra, Nakhon Pathom, together with multiple revered monks of the province, the proceeds supported charitable causes including the construction of hospitals and schools.
The condition is exceptional, with details remarkably preserved. Discerning eyes will notice subtle handwritten inscriptions upon the surface, highly likely to have been personally engraved by Luang Por Pern himself.
An extraordinary and seldom-encountered medallion of true historical weight, presence, and prestige.. Unlikely to surface again anytime soon.
INCLUSIVE OF A CUSTOM MADE SOLID GOLD OPEN/CLOSE CASING!
