The image of Luang Por Sothorn stands among the most revered and historically significant Buddha images in the entirety of Thailand.

Its history traces back centuries to the ancient Kingdom of Ayutthaya. According to longstanding historical accounts and local tradition, the sacred image was one of the few Buddha images to survive the Burmese invasion of Ayutthaya and was later discovered floating downstream along the river system connected to the great Chao Phraya River. Since then, Luang Por Sothorn has become one of the most deeply venerated Buddhist images in Thailand, attracting devotees from every corner of the country.

Throughout generations, Luang Por Sothorn amulets have been especially respected for blessings associated with prosperity, smooth progress, protection, and success in one’s undertakings. What we present today is far from an ordinary amulet by Luang Pu Tim. This remarkable piece is known as Phra Chai Wat from the highly revered Chinbanchon Batch.. Widely recognised throughout the Thai amulet industry as the NUMBER 1 Phra Chai Wat ever created by Luang Pu Tim of Wat Lahan Rai.

For seasoned collectors, the words “Chinbanchon Batch” require little introduction.

Created in B.E. 2517 (1974 A.D.), the Chinbanchon Batch is universally regarded as Luang Pu Tim’s most important and TOP TIERED amulet batches. It represents the pinnacle of his creations and remains one of the most sought-after batches among highly learned collectors worldwide.

There were a total of 4 variants that made up the batch:

1. Phra Kring
2. Phra Chai Wat
3. Phra Pidta “Poom Pui”
4. Phra Sangkachai

It is known as the TOP 4 amulets by Luang Pu Tim and they are extremely sought after by collectors all over the world!

The featured piece we present today is the highly prominent Phra Chai Wat Variant from the legendary Chinbanchon lineage of Luang Pu Tim.

Among advanced collectors and highly learned connoisseurs, this particular issue is widely regarded as one of Luang Pu Tim’s greatest creations.. Not merely because of its rarity, but due to the historically significant and highly traditional method employed in its creation.

The Phra Chai Wat image was modelled after the ancient and revered Phra Chai Wat of Wat Suthat Thep Wararam, one of Thailand’s most important royal temples and a temple deeply associated with some of the finest cast amulets in Thai Buddhist history.

What elevates this issue even further is the method of consecration and preparation.

The creation followed one of the oldest and most respected traditional systems for crafting sacred cast amulets through the inscription of the 108 sacred yantras together with the 14 Yant Nah formulas, an ancient ritual methodology long associated with the highest tier of Phra Kring and Phra Chai Wat amulet creation. Such procedures are not merely symbolic; they represent a continuation of ancient esoteric traditions passed down through generations of highly cultivated masters.

One of only 1,900 pieces made in the world!

And the most notable part? The condition.

To understand this, we must first comprehend how was the item made more than 40 years ago.

Amulet as such, are casted using primitive casting methods that involved the pouring of molten alloy into casting mould which will then form the shape of the item. Due to the primitive nature of such casting methods, there are a lot of inconsistencies.

Air pressure which causes bubbling occurs during the casting process making most pieces having a rough and uneven surface with even some items missing important details thus effectively rendering the item “damaged during the casting process”.

To find one piece as this item featured here, in such an immaculate condition, is of incomprehensible difficulty. Noticed the even texture found on the surface? It is a typical example of sheer luck with the right amount of molten gold being filled in the cast thus preventing bubbles from forming on the surface of the amulet!

The casting quality is outstanding, with complete and beautifully defined features throughout the entire image. The surface texture has also oxidized magnificently over time, developing a rich and naturally patina that can only be achieved through decades of natural aging!

In our opinion, this is piece is easily one of the finest examples we have encountered in a very long time.

Extremely collectible, historically important, and increasingly difficult to acquire in such beautiful original condition!

Unlike many other issues which were produced in multiple material variants, the Phra Pidta Poom Pui was created in only one single material: Nawaloha.

While that number may appear sizeable on paper, locating an example today in truly exceptional condition is extraordinarily difficult. These amulets were produced over half a century ago using primitive casting techniques, where inconsistencies during the casting process frequently resulted in incomplete details, uneven surfaces, air bubbles, or softened features. As such, fully complete and aesthetically pleasing examples represent only a small minority of surviving pieces.

This featured specimen stands firmly among those exceptional few.

The casting quality is outstanding, with complete and beautifully defined features throughout the entire image. The surface texture has also matured magnificently over time, developing a rich and naturally oxidised character that can only be achieved through decades of untouched ageing.

In our opinion, this is unquestionably one of the finest examples we have encountered in a very long time.

This is one of those amulets that need no formal introduction or fancy words of literature to elaborate how prominent of an amulet this is from the eyes of a collector as it is incredibly iconic and collectors can easily ascertain the origin of this particular medallion!

Blessed by Luang Pu Tim of Wat Lahan Rai, Rayong. Without a doubt, one of the most famous holy monks of Thailand! His fame spreads far and wide beyond Thailand!

Made in Year 2518 B.E. in celebration of Luang Pu Tim’s 8th Cycle, otherwise known as the 96th Year Old Birthday Batch.

This iconic medallion features the image of Phra Nak Prok. It depicts a majestic image of Lord Buddha and Mucalinda, the King of Serpents, spreading its hood to shield Lord Buddha from the rain whilst Lord Buddha is in deep meditation.

It is one of the most iconic image of Buddhism. History of such an image dates back to more than 2,000 years ago!

There are multiple variants made for this particular medallion and what is featured here is the TOP TIERED “BLOK NIYOM” (POPULAR MOULD) of the entire batch!

The condition of this medallion is stunning! Every single detail is extremely distinctive!

Iridescent hues are found scattered across the entire surface of the medallion!

Easily one of the MOST ICONIC medallions to be blessed by Luang Pu Tim of Wat Lahan Rai, Rayong.

Known as “RIAN SEMA PAET ROB” which was made in celebration of Luang Pu Tim’s 96th Year Old Birthday. The proceeds of distributing this batch of medallions went wholly to the construction of “Sala Phawannaphirath” within the compound of Wat Lahan Rai.

The consecration ceremony of this particular batch of medallions were very, very grand. The consecration ceremony took around 45 days to complete and was extremely well known for many documented miracles among numerous devotees of Luang Pu Tim.

There were a few material variants made and this featured piece is made of COPPER.

Copper pieces are further differentiated into pieces hallmarked with DIFFERENT CODES.

Most of the medallions are hallmarked with just one code.. And is usually a “Code Wu” and on much rarer cases, a “Code Nah” will be featured instead.. However, this particular piece is not your conventional “Rian Sema Paet Rob” medallion..

This is a very, very special piece that has TWO CODES hallmarked on the medallion!
