Known as the “1st Issue” Luang Por Sothorn amulet to be blessed by Somdej Sangkaraj Yannasangwon and distributed from Wat Phutta Chakra Mongkhon, Bangkok.

Blessed in an extremely grand consecration ceremony in two different locations, Wat Sothorn Woraram Worawihan and Wat Phutta Chakra Mong Khon. Numerous monks participated in the consecration ceremony presided by Somdej Sangkaraj Yannasangwon.

Somdej Sangkaraj Yannasangwon was the supreme patriarch, the highest ranking monk of Thailand.

During his more than seventy years as a monk and novice, Somdej Yannsangwon has held a variety of posts in the Thai ecclesiastic hierarchy. In these roles, he has always been concerned with promoting education, both religious and secular. He has assisted in the founding and construction of numerous schools, as well as sponsoring campaigns to build schools, temples, and hospitals in rural communities.

As abbot of Wat Bowon Niwet Wihan, he oversaw the renovation and expansion of this famed century-old monastery. Long interested in the meditation techniques of the Thai forest monks, Somdej Yannasangwon has helped make his temple residence a center for meditation study and instruction in Bangkok, himself delivering lectures on meditation and Buddhist teachings on two Uposatha days each month.

Made for the sake of distributing only to the temple committee members.

Made of SILVER with a gold plated surface. There were 3 colored enamel variants made:

3. GREEN

The yellow enamel variants are the most sought after among all 3 color enamel variants.

The image of Luang Por Sothorn is one of the most revered Buddha Images in the entire country of Thailand. History of the image dates back to centuries ago in the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. It is one of the Buddha Images that survived the invasion of the Burmese and was found to be floating down the Ping River, one of the two main tributaries of the Chao Phraya River.

This particular piece is made in Year 2505 B.E. (1962 A.D.) and blessed in a very grand consecration ceremony with many top tiered holy monks participating to bless the batch of amulets.

The condition is near flawless for an amulet that has almost 60 years of history!

The number 5-7 5-7 derives from the dots found on the top two segments of Luang Por Sothorn’s head on each of the side, hence the term 5-7 5-7.

It is considered as Bodhimanda (seat or platform of enlightenment) of Gautama Buddha. The slab is presumed to have been placed at the location during the reign of Maurya king Ashoka between 250–233 B.E., at the spot where the Buddha meditated.

2. Chitralada Powder, which contains the hair of King Rama IX and other sacred materials.

3. Gold foils from the Buddha Statue of Luang Por Sothorn in Cha Choeng Sao that dates back to more than 100 years ago.

A celebratory batch made in celebration of Luang Por Kasem’s 83rd Birthday and the most important aspect that is accurately and properly documented is that this particular batch of Phra Kring amulets are “personally casted by Luang Por Kasem himself”.

Towards the end of Luang Por Kasem’s life – Luang Por Kasem passed away in Year 2539 B.E. (1996 A.D.) – it is a very rare occurrence for Luang Por Kasem to personally cast any images but this batch was an exception.

The distinctive features that sets this Phra Kring image apart from the other Phra Kring image is that it takes reference of the “Phra Kring Lhom Lhook” image made decades ago by Tarn Chao Ma of Wat Sarm Pluem and paid homage to how the amulet was made.

What is featured here is probably the most iconic amulet to be ever distributed from the temple of Luang Por Sothorn.

This featured piece is known as the 5-7 5-7 Variant and it is one of the top tiered variant of the entire batch of amulets made. There are 6 variants made in total.

The number 5-7 5-7 derives from the dots found on the top two segments of Luang Por Sothorn’s head on each of the side, hence the term 5-7 5-7.

The condition of the amulet is well preserved and and beautiful.

It is difficult to properly articulate how incredibly collectible it is for this particular item.
